Position Summary

The Middle School Athletic Director at Andale Elementary School plays a vital leadership role in the development, organization, and oversight of the school's middle school athletic programs. This supplemental position ensures compliance with Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) regulations, manages coaches and athletic staff, oversees scheduling and equipment, and promotes student-athlete development within the broader mission of the school and district.
Primary Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise all middle school athletic programs.
• Recruit, hire, and support middle school coaches.
• Oversee the management of team equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
• Ensure that all student-athletes meet eligibility requirements, including current physicals and required documentation.
• Schedule games, practices, tournaments, and other athletic events in coordination with league requirements.
• Secure and coordinate referees, officials, and event supervision.
• Maintain communication with KSHSAA and ensure full compliance with league and state guidelines.
• Attend and represent the school at Central Plains League meetings and other athletic director events.
• Develop and maintain an athletic calendar and distribute it to staff, families, and the broader community.
• Promote good sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and student-centered coaching practices.
• Coordinate transportation requests for athletic events.
• Collaborate with administration to manage the athletic budget and fundraising initiatives.
• Foster positive relationships with athletes, parents, coaches, and community stakeholders.
• Ensure safety and emergency procedures are in place at athletic events and practices.
• Promote participation and support the academic success of student-athletes.

Additional Leadership Responsibilities

As part of the school's broader educational leadership team, the Athletic Director may assist with:

• Supporting the implementation and improvement of educational and extracurricular programs aligned with district goals.
• Encouraging ongoing professional development and instructional innovation among staff.
• Promoting a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
• Coordinating master schedules and student programming as needed.
• Participating in school and district-wide initiatives for continuous improvement.
• Maintaining compliance with school board policies and administrative procedures.
• Assisting in staff evaluation and coaching in alignment with the district evaluation plan.
• Supporting parent engagement and communication.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• In-depth understanding of middle school athletics, coaching strategies, and program development.
• Familiarity with KSHSAA rules and requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive responsibilities.
• Effective communication skills with students, staff, and parents.
• Ability to use relevant technology and scheduling systems.
• Experience in supervising staff and managing student-centered programs.
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to teamwork.

Qualifications

• Valid Kansas teaching license (preferred).
• Previous coaching and/or athletic leadership experience (required).
• Administrative endorsement or licensure (preferred but not required).
• CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).

Work Environment

• Work occurs in a school and athletic environment, including gymnasiums, fields, offices, and event settings.
• Requires availability for after-school hours, evenings, and some weekends for events and competitions.
