Cloud Architect
Reporting to the Director of Architecture, we are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Cloud Architect to join our growing, dynamic healthcare organization. The Cloud Architect will be a strategic thought leader who's responsible for designing, building, and maintaining cloud-based solutions at the BMC system-wide level that are performant, secure, compliant, and scalable. This role will focus on improving healthcare delivery by leveraging cutting-edge public and hybrid-cloud technologies, partnering with BMCHS Information Security to ensure data security / privacy, and optimizing platform performance, while adhering to healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and HITRUST.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties:
- Cloud Architecture Design: Design and implement cloud infrastructure tailored for mission-critical healthcare applications, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
- Compliance and Security: Develop and maintain systems in accordance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST) to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance.
- Collaboration with Teams: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Cloud Operations, network engineering, infrastructure engineering, IT, and other business units to understand requirements and deliver effective cloud solutions.
- Cloud Service Management: Oversee and optimize the use of AWS cloud services to ensure cost efficiency and resource management.
- Data Management: Architect cloud solutions for large-scale healthcare data management, including Electronic Health Records (EHR), Patient Health Information (PHI), and medical data analytics.
- Disaster Recovery & Backup: Work closely with the Storage and Virtualization Team to design and implement robust disaster recovery and data backup plans that ensure business continuity and meet healthcare industry standards.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor cloud infrastructure performance, identifying and resolving issues proactively to maintain operational efficiency.
- Cost Reporting: Monitor cloud service spend and work cross-functionally to identify and implement strategies for optimizing and scaling appropriately.
- Innovation: Stay up to date with the latest trends and best practices in cloud computing and broader healthcare technology and apply innovative solutions to improve healthcare delivery.
Job Requirements:
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and at least 7 years of progressive, demonstrated experience in AWS (and/or) multi-cloud architecture; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with cloud-based data storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Experience with DevOps tools and automation (e.g., CloudFormation, AWS CDK, AWS Landing Zone Accelerator, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins).
- Experience assessing, testing, implementing modern platform visibility solutions (DataDog, Dynatrace, New Relic, Prometheus / Grafana).
- Experience with healthcare IT systems such as EMR/HER (Epic).
- Experience with cloud-based data warehouses, data lakes, and data pipelines.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- 3 years of experience focused on healthcare-related solutions in and AWS cloud environment is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required:
- Up to date certification in at least one relevant cloud platform (AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Security Specialty, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, etc.).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Preferred:
- Certification in multiple cloud platforms.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing cloud infrastructures (AWS) using IaC (infrastructure as code).
- Demonstrated history of migrating enterprise-scale data center workloads into AWS utilizing native and 3rd party tooling.
- Strong understanding and demonstrated history of architecting cloud-based systems utilizing the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
- Strong understanding of industry regulations such as HIPAA & HITRUST, and other relevant compliance frameworks such as NIST CSF.
- Strong understanding of cloud security best practices, identity management, and encryption protocols.
- Familiarity with healthcare-specific software platforms and technologies (e.g., EHR systems like Epic, healthcare analytics tools).
- Knowledge of cloud-native machine learning and AI applications in a healthcare setting.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
