Job Summary:

As a Shop Assistant, you'll be the go-to problem-solver behind the scenes-keeping our tools, trucks, and small equipment running smoothly so our field teams can build with confidence. In this hands-on role, you'll handle everything from diagnosing mechanical issues to performing routine maintenance and safety checks. Your work directly supports the success of our construction projects by making sure everything is in top shape and ready to go. Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Inspect, diagnose, and make minor repairs to construction equipment, including trucks and small engines.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure equipment remains safe and operational.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently.
  • Set up new trucks for distribution.
  • Prep old trucks for sale.

Inspections & Reporting
  • Conduct regular equipment inspections and promptly report findings to the Shop Manager.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance, repairs, and inspections.

Collaboration & Prioritization
  • Work closely with site supervisors to coordinate and prioritize equipment service needs.
  • Assist with equipment mobilization and demobilization at job sites and the shop.

Shop Organization & Compliance
  • Maintain a clean, organized shop environment, including tools and parts inventory.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities follow company policies and safety regulations.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-years of experience as a mechanic in construction equipment repair preferred.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Class A CDL required, or must obtain before 6 months of employment.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and protocols in a construction environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to operate various types of construction equipment.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to operate diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Welding and Fabrication certifications.

Work Environment:
  • Work in severe elements including extreme heat or cold.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to do the following consistently without assistance:
  • Lift, push, or pull materials weighing up to 80 lbs. occasionally.
  • Walk, bend, twist, turn, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb and squat in cramped or awkward positions when necessary.
  • Walk on uneven surfaces frequently.
