Job Title

Primary Purpose: To support the Districts vision to create a student-centered environment where all members of the school-community are empowered to participate and thrive academically, civically, and socially through relevant educational experiences to achieve and fulfill their lifes purpose.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the administration.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum standards by establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional standards.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Continuously assess the needs of students and refer to the appropriate building level individual(s) when learning concerns have been identified.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the teachers negotiated agreement, Board of Education policy, administrative regulation, and laws of the state of Kansas.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing students.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes when required or requested at mutually agreeable times.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteer(s), and provide feedback to the building principal as to their performances.
  • Work cooperatively with staff on various tasks and/or assignments.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and phone, standard classroom technology including computer and peripherals
  • Posture: Prolonged standing, frequent walking, pushing/pulling, occasional kneeling/squatting, occasional bending/stooping
  • Moon: Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse, occasional reaching
  • Liing: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds), occasional lifting of heavy objects
  • Environment: Primarily indoors; some outdoor student supervision
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress, solve problems, make decisions
  • Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations
  • Clearances: Background check, drug screen, TB test
