Description:

Maize Central Elementary School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Principal for the 2026-27 school year. Serving five sections of each grade from Kindergarten through Fourth Grade, Maize Central is also home to a robust Functional Applied Academics program dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs. The Principal position is a 10.5-month contract and is supported by a full administrative and student services team, including an Assistant Principal and two School Counselors. This is an exciting opportunity for an instructional leader committed to fostering a collaborative culture, strong relationships, and high levels of learning for all students.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification: Master's degree from an accredited university and active building leadership license

Special Knowledge/Skills: School and building operations, curriculum and instruction, budgeting, personnel management, implementation of policies and procedures, data interpretation, communication

Experience: At least 2 years of building leadership experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Understand and demonstrate competence in content, student growth and development, learning styles, classroom instruction and management, communication, lesson planning assessment, reflection, and community.
  2. Promote the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, and implementation of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
  3. Advocate, nurture, and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
  4. Model collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
  5. Hire and evaluate building level personnel.
  6. Conduct staff evaluations.
  7. Serve on building and district committees.
  8. Oversee the special education process.
  9. Conduct Parent Advisory Council meetings and create agendas.
  10. Follow all KSDE, Legislation and BOE policy and regulation.
  11. Monitor instructional processes to ensure that educational activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions where necessary.
  12. Provide instructional resources and materials needed to accomplish instructional goals.
  13. Establish clear expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies, classroom management and communication.
  14. Foster collegiality and team building among staff. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
  15. Build a common vision for school improvement with staff. Direct planning activities and implement programs to ensure attainment of the school's mission.
  16. Establish building performance objectives using the district planning process and involving site-based decision-making committees. Demonstrate progress using results to promote school improvement.
  17. Provide opportunities for interactive communication with district leaders, staff, students, parents, and community. Work with staff to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  18. Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the student handbook.
  19. Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  20. Develop and administer building budget based on documented program needs and estimated enrollment ensuring that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
  21. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents.
  22. Manage use of school facilities. Oversee maintenance of facilities to ensure clean, orderly, and safe facilities.
  23. Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Approve all personnel assigned to the building.
  24. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences in accordance with district policy and state law.
  25. Coach staff and help them identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals.
  26. Work with district-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.
  27. Articulate the school's mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission
  28. Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
  29. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  30. Maintain confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.
  31. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the school and district.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and phone, two-way radio

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing

Motion: Repetitive hand motion, some walking, occasional reaching, carrying, stooping, and kneeling

Lifting: Occasional light lifting

Environment: Prolonged and irregular hours, primarily indoors with some outdoor activities, may be noisy

Mental Demands:Maintain focus, decision making, remain composed under pressure
