Location: Wichita, KS, US, 67210

Business Unit: Power & Data Systems

The Winder/Assembler winds wire for armatures used in aerospace equipment according to blueprint and work order instructions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviews blueprint and work order to ascertain type and size of wire specified, including size, length, and circumference.
  • Winds wire by hand or machine. If winding by machine, starts machine and manually feeds wire to obtain even and uniform winding and shape of armature.
  • Fabricates the armature, including assembling the com, visual inspection, and measuring the stack to ensure it meets specifications.
  • Cuts insulators and wire.
  • Bands the armature with string or wire banding by hand; solders bands.
  • Ensures revision of print is same as what is called out.
  • Tests the armature with ohmmeter and surge tester. Sets up parameters and observes read out.
  • Rewinds armatures that are in for overhaul.
  • When warranties come back, checks the part to determine the nature of the problem, completes paperwork, takes to proper station, and determines if it should be rewound. Contacts the Production Manager if there is a recurring issue.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six to nine months previous industry-related experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in one-on-one situations with management and co-workers, including the ability to speak simple sentences; listen to others without interrupting and get clarification when needed.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, work orders, and memos. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions and procedures furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to operate the equipment used in the department, including but not limited to an ohmmeter, winding machine, growler, hydraulic press, surge tester, and measuring devices.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Develops and encourages original, creative and successful approaches to issues; continually improves processes; takes smart risks.
  • Motivated individual, fast learner, and capable of working independently.
  • Must have aptitude and the physical abilities to learn soldering and become solder certified.
  • Must have knowledge of prototype, assembly drawings and blueprint reading.
  • Must be able to perform soldering and mechanical assembly of a complex and critical nature that may require an extensive knowledge of techniques, tools, materials, military standards and ISO 9000.

Compensation:

Employee Type: Hourly

Salary Minimum: $35,000

Salary Maximum: $45,000

Incentive: 1289
