Learning Experience Designer

2026-01-15     Group Peer Support     all cities,AK
Description:

Overview

GPS Group Peer Support is seeking a Learning Experience Designer (Senior Level) to create learning experiences that prepare people to lead the GPS model in real-world settings-so groups are delivered with skill, care, consistency, and confidence. Our work focuses on building capacity in the field-equipping people to learn, practice, and implement a trauma-informed, evidence-based model of group peer support in the places where people already live and work

Working closely with the Director of Content and Curriculum, and in collaborationwith the CEO, Program Director, training leadership, and the LMS Specialist, this team member will lead discovery conversations to clarify training goals, learner needs, and measurable outcomes-then translate that input into cohesive learning designs for both live and LMS-based formats. You will design, organize, and maintain GPS's suite of learning materials to support statewide and national expansion. This role does not administer the LMS (LearnWorlds); it designs LMS-ready learning experiences and ensures materials function effectively in that environment.

This role is for a seasoned learning leader with a high bar for excellence who is energized by mission-driven work and real-world implementation. You will design clear, emotionally intelligent learning experiences for adult learners across roles and contexts, including clinicians and other professionals, peer leaders and facilitators, supervisors and managers, frontline staff, community-based providers, and people with lived experience stepping into leadership. You will be expected to bring strong instructional design judgment, learning analytics and evaluation skills, and disciplined project management-creating learning journeys that are compelling and truly usable in the field. If you want your work to help reshape how healing and human support are made possible at scale-by equipping real organizations and communities to bring high-quality group connection to the people they serve-and you thrive when the standard is excellence, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities
Learning Strategy & Instructional Design

  • Collaborate with leadership and program teams to define learning goals, instructional priorities, and measurable training outcomes.
  • Conduct structured discovery conversations to understand project goals, audiences, and desired learner impact.
  • Ask clarifying questions, propose options, and translate stakeholder input into clear outlines, visual frameworks, and learning sequences.
  • Develop experiential, discussion-based adult-learning pathways and modular content sequences across audiences and programs.
  • Adapt materials for hybrid, asynchronous, and self-paced learning environments using trauma-informed, adult-learning principles.
Content Development & Visual Frameworks
  • Assess existing slide decks and learning materials and recommend improvements for clarity, consistency, and impact.
  • Create accessible visual frameworks, conceptual diagrams, models, and schemas that clearly communicate GPS principles.
  • Develop structured facilitator notes and participant materials that support consistent, high-quality delivery.
  • Prepare polished slide decks for conferences, funders, legislative briefings, partners, and external events.
  • Produce bilingual materials when possible; bilingual fluency is highly desired but not required.
Brand-Aligned Slide Design & Template Development
  • Design and maintain Google Slides templates aligned with GPS brand, tone, and trauma-informed values.
  • Maintain a version-controlled library of slide decks for internal use, ensuring consistent design standards across all programs.
  • Organize content into multi-module learning pathways applicable across programs, audiences, and contexts.
Interactive & Experiential Engagement Tools
  • Design and facilitate interactive learning moments using digital engagement tools (e.g., whiteboards, polls, reflective prompts, and word clouds), with an emphasis on adult learning, psychological safety, and real-world application
Learning Management System (LMS) Integration
  • Prepare slide-based instructional materials for seamless integration into GPS's LMS (LearnWorlds).
  • Format content for LMS compatibility, including modular structuring, downloadable assets, and clear navigation.
  • Collaborate with the LMS Specialist to upload materials, structure pathways, confirm formatting, and ensure proper display.
  • Ensure all materials meet accessibility expectations including readability, pacing, cognitive load, and trauma-informed design.
  • Coordinate program tagging, course sequencing, and learner tracking needs in partnership with LMS staff.
Iterative Improvement & Quality Assurance
  • Design and apply practical evaluation strategies to assess learner experience, engagement, and effectiveness within the LMS, and use findings to improve learning design and delivery.
  • Revise learning materials based on structured feedback from leadership, trainers, program staff, and stakeholders.
  • Support the long-term development of GPS's learning system as the organization expands across Massachusetts and nationally.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience creating instructional materials, curriculum, or training content for adult learners.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating adult-learning or LMS-based programs, including defining success metrics, collecting learner feedback, interpreting engagement data, and translating insights into design improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate narrative or conceptual content into structured learning materials.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for sensitive, relational, or emotionally complex content.
  • Demonstrated ability to use visual design to clarify complex ideas and support adult learning-not just decorate content.
  • Experience designing facilitator-led or experiential learning resources.
  • Familiarity with accessibility principles including readability, contrast, and cognitive load.
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Slides as a visual learning design tool, including layout, template systems, visual hierarchy, and purposeful use of motion to support adult learning.
  • Significant experience in behavioral health, mental health, public health, social work, trauma-informed practice, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage shared drive systems, deadlines, and version control.
  • Willingness to learn the GPS model and apply its tone, language, and principles consistently.
  • Ability to design learning materials that function effectively within a Learning Management System (LearnWorlds), including module organization and learner navigation considerations.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous and hybrid learning approaches.
  • Ability to interview subject-matter experts, synthesize their ideas, and independently propose learning structures and slide outlines.
  • Competence in taking a high-level concept or rough idea and turning it into a complete, well-structured learning asset with minimal hand-holding.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing training or adult learning content for community-centered, peer-led, or group-based programs.
  • Experience preparing presentations for policy, legislative, or funder audiences.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Canva, or comparable design tools.
  • Familiarity with engagement platforms such as Mentimeter, Slido, or Zoom tools.
  • Professional proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience preparing content for use in an LMS environment such as LearnWorlds, Canvas, Moodle, Thinkific, or similar.
  • Understanding of basic LMS workflows (uploading materials, structuring modules, creating resources).
Additional Skills and Attributes
  • Ability to distill qualitative stories and relational content into clear visuals.
  • Ability to create reusable templates and frameworks for organizational use.
  • Ability to incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders with clarity and balance.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed learning design.
  • Comfort managing multiple projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong project management and communication skills.
