Account Representative - Patient Billing Specialist

General Summary: This role involves managing the revenue cycle and general operations with a focus on exceptional customer service and maintaining respectful relationships.

Essential Functions: Responsibilities include preparing and facilitating monthly billing to all payors within timely filing requirements, completing insurance verification and authorization for services as needed, and transmitting required data to vendors in compliance with CMS regulations. The role also involves conducting pre-billing audits, generating pre- and post-month-end reports, reconciling accounts receivables, and providing reports to accounting. Maintaining knowledge of patient rights and legal issues related to billing and collections is essential. Investigating and following up on outstanding claims, preparing journal entries, reviewing invoice coding, and assisting with office and clerical duties to ensure smooth operations are also key tasks. Additionally, the position supports administrative and quality functions through report preparation and data collection. Compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI) is mandatory.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required: Familiarity with collection techniques and accounts receivable maintenance, basic understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance, strong communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of accounting principles.

Preferred Education and Experience: Associate degree in Business with an emphasis in accounting, additional education in accounting, coding, and medical terminology, and relevant public accounting or medical billing experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid state driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance.

This position is based in a regional healthcare setting serving communities in the Central Plains region of the United States.
