About the Job

General Description:

The Concrete Estimator plays a vital role in ensuring the accuracy of bid proposals and scope analysis for diverse construction projects. This position involves conducting thorough quote reviews, project management, and material purchasing. You will be responsible for preparing pricing estimates for new projects as well as adjusting estimates for change orders on existing contracts. Your expertise in purchasing, labor, equipment, and transportation costs will allow you to deliver comprehensive cost estimates that maintain profitable margins in line with the company's objectives. Ultimately, you will leverage your skills to foster new business growth.

Responsibilities:

As Lead Estimator:

  • Thoroughly comprehend job bid instructions and specifications to prepare a detailed material take-off for each project.
  • Accurately estimate labor, materials, buyout items, and equipment costs (including cranes) to compile a comprehensive price estimate.
  • Review project proposals, specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to ascertain project scope and develop quantity take-offs.
  • Prioritize safety considerations in your decision-making throughout the estimating process.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Build strong partnerships with owners and general contractors to facilitate smooth project execution.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager on the buyout process.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience estimating substantial commercial self-perform concrete projects.
  • Strong knowledge and field experience with cast-in-place concrete structures, including foundations and footings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical and legal documents.
  • Familiarity with structural products like joists, decks, stairs, rails, and anchor rods.
  • Ability to clearly define the scope of work, including inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.
  • Understanding of construction terminology and adeptness in using computer estimating software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with B2W software is a plus.
  • Creative, results-driven, and possess a strong sense of urgency.
  • Successful internships or Project Engineering experience are advantageous.
  • A highly entrepreneurial mindset and self-motivation, with the capability to work autonomously or collaboratively within a team.
