Camp Hiawatha Food Service Position

Under the direction of the Branch Director, Kitchen staff are responsible for all aspects of food service at Camp Hiawatha. Areas of responsibilities including but are not limited to following state, local and federal standards as applicable for meal prep and food service, washing dishes, prepping and cooking food, weekly inventory, and maintaining communication and positive relationships with groups.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Education/Experience Requirements:

  1. Minimum age of 18
  2. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  3. Must have at least 3 months of experience in food service

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  1. Must be able to routinely perform the following moderate physical activities; climb, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, walk and stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity
  2. Must possess problem solving, organizational and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
  3. Must demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, sound judgment, motivation and desire to work with all ages, especially youth
  4. Must exhibit initiative in the absence of supervision
  5. Must be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner
  6. Must work collaboratively as a team member as well as independently to achieve assigned duties and goals
  7. Must present a neat and professional appearance at all times

Job Requirements:

  1. Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and values
  2. Must attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire
  3. Understand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the association
  4. Work a schedule that reflects the needs of Camp.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Follow menu provided and prepare meals in a timely manner.
  2. Follow all safe food handling practices
  3. Maintain inventory of all food and service items, rotate stock and communicate shortage of supplies.
  4. Always maintain a clean and sanitary environment
  5. Practice appropriate food storage in accordance with KDHE requirements.
  6. Attend all scheduled staff meetings and assigned trainings
  7. Display and model at all time the YMCA Core Values: Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Caring.
  8. All other duties assigned by Branch Director

Ensuring groups have a positive food service experience at Camp Hiawatha.
