Job Title: Crew Chief

Position Summary

The Crew Chief is responsible for staking well locations, surveying and establishing section corners, and staking access roads, including slope staking for access roads and well location pads. This position provides daily oversight of assigned Survey Assistants and ensures all work is performed accurately, efficiently, and safely.

Reporting Structure

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Reports To: Project Manager, Area Manager, or Regional Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Stake pipelines and pipeline right-of-ways
  • Prepare topographic surveys and cross-sectioning
  • Perform mathematical calculations, field checks, and manage field data
  • Take accurate and clear field notes and perform note reduction
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications
  • Perform quality control on all work
  • Maintain company equipment and company vehicles
  • Accurately complete time and expense reporting
  • Meet with clients and public landowners as a company representative
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Education, Skills & Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Background in math, geometry, and/or trigonometry required
  • 6-12 months of experience as a Survey Field Assistant and/or related training or schooling
Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of the Oil & Gas surveying industry
  • Understanding of sources of measurement errors
  • Knowledge of monumentation, staking, and marking principles
Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient math and computer skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Professional, proactive, and positive attitude
  • Adaptable and flexible in changing environments
  • Detail-oriented with sound judgment
  • Ability to work effectively as a team contributor
Licensing Requirements
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) must meet company requirements throughout employment
Physical & Additional Requirements
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to walk for extended periods and operate ATVs across various terrains
  • Must be dependable, organized, and safety-conscious
  • Strong documentation and inventory control skills
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently
  • Must participate in the company drug and alcohol compliance program
  • Flexible and adaptable to change

Working Conditions

This position requires both mental and physical labor. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors and is subject to extreme weather conditions and varying terrain. Extended walking and ATV operation may be required.
